Hazmat Training Comes to Raleigh

Press Release Summary: December 31, 2007 - When workers handle hazardous waste or
ship hazardous materials, training is not just a good idea, it's the law. According
to the EPA, workers who handle hazardous waste must be trained annually, and the
federal DOT requires that workers involved in the shipment of hazardous materials be
trained at least every three years. Personnel who ship hazardous materials by air
or water must receive training mandated by the International Air Transportation
Association (IATA) and International Maritime Organization (IMO) every two years.
In addition, SARA Title III (Emergency Planning and Community Right-To-Know)
requires you to inform your surrounding community about your facility\'s hazardous
substances and releases - accidental and permitted.

Research Triangle Park on January 21- 23.

Hazardous Waste Management: The Complete Course will be taught on January 21 and 22.

Hazardous Materials Certification Training for DOT 49 CFR Transportation Regulations
will be taught on January 23 at the same location.

IATA/IMO will be taught at Environmental Resource Center's office at 101 Center
Pointe Drive in Cary on January 24 and SARA Title III will be taught on January 25
at the Cary office.

Untrained workers are frequently the cause of environmental accidents and penalties.
For 2007 alone, NC DENR has fined North Carolina companies more than $825,000 for
the mismanagement of hazardous waste.1
